About us
Samuel Manteaux was born in Laval in 1958 and practised its craft there for 68 years. Founded in 1958 by Gérard Samuel, originally from the Gaspé Peninsula, and located on Le Corbusier Boulevard since 1984, the Samuel mode et manteaux boutique supports local makers as well as the work of new, emerging designers.
On July 1, 2025, owners Martin Faucher and Roxane Labelle moved their workshop and storage to 229 St-Georges Street in Saint-Jérôme, when the City of Laval took back the Le Corbusier Boulevard premises for a development project.
We would have liked to stay in Laval, but since that was not possible, we see this move as an opportunity to modernize our facilities and improve our ability to serve our customers.
Roxane Labelle, co-owner — July 2025
The workshop does remodeling and custom creations right on the premises. It has a refrigerated vault with controlled temperature and humidity for the preservation of more than 6,000 coats, a rare facility among fur workshops. A seasonal counter is maintained in Laval for spring drop-offs and fall deliveries.
Custom coat making at Samuel Manteaux relies on exceptional artisanal craftsmanship. Each piece is cut, assembled and sewn by hand with great precision. We carry on the tradition of handwork while bringing in modern techniques for optimal construction and results worthy of haute couture.
If your coat, or one you inherited, came from the former Laval workshop or from one of the fourteen Quebec fur houses whose legacy the workshop has taken over, you can entrust it to us here. The expertise is still here, and the evaluation is still free.
Samuel Manteaux 1958 is committed to sustainable development and to reducing waste and its carbon footprint. A pioneer in fur recycling, Samuel Manteaux favours reclaimed fur and natural materials such as leather, cashmere and wool. Every component of a Samuel Manteaux garment is carefully hand-selected for its exceptional qualities.
Our professional fur and shearling care services clean, condition, alter, repair, preserve, maintain, transform, refit or repurpose fur and shearling, as well as other outerwear.

The workshop brings together 3 designers, 2 seamstresses and 2 tailor-furriers, all specialized in working with fur, leather and shearling. Nothing is outsourced: from the initial evaluation to delivery, the coat stays in the hands of the same team.
The evaluation is free for every piece brought to the workshop, whether it is a minor repair or a complete remodel. Our team will tell you honestly what is possible, what is recommended, and what is not worth it.

The tailors handle fur preparation and coat making. The seamstresses take care of finishing, adjustments on fabric and minor repairs.
Over the decades, Samuel Manteaux 1958 has acquired and carried on the legacy of fourteen Quebec fur houses. This is not an honorary list: it is the real transfer of customer bases and of know-how that would otherwise have disappeared. If your family’s coat came from one of these houses, it still belongs here.
Coats from other fur houses are welcome too. Our team can handle the adjustments, remodeling or custom creations you need.

It’s no accident that Radio-Canada chose Samuel Manteaux to talk about recycling and transforming fur coats. This expertise has been passed down for generations, with the same rigour and the same respect for materials.

You are a fantastic team! Every person who served me on site over the years, or whom I spoke with, has been professional and super kind. I know my coat is in good hands. It makes no difference whether you are in Laval or in Saint-Jérôme.
